Man Busted For Sending Drugs Via Post Office

CHICAGO (STNG)  -- A Southwest Side man has been arrested and nearly $100,000 in cocaine and cannabis seized by police after the man accepted delivery of the drugs from via U.S. mail.

But while Agustin Quinones, 42, was allegedly expecting the drugs, he was not expecting the packages to be delivered by Chicago police.

The investigation began with the Chicago Police Department Package Interdiction Team looking into a suspicious package sent through the U.S. Postal Service from Texas, according to a release from police News Affairs.

After obtaining a search warrant, the team discovered aabout 7,438 grams of cannabis with an estimated street value of $44,628, the release said. The team then learned of a second shipment, similarly sent from Texas to the same address, which contained about 7,529 grams of cannabis, with an estimated value of $45,174.

Officers delivered the packages to an address on the 3500 block of West 75th Street, where Quinones allegedly accepted both, the release said. Minutes later, he placed one package inside a vehicle and was arrested.

When officers executed a search warrant at the residence, they retrieved the other package of pot and about 61 grams of cocaine with an approximate value of $7,503, the release said.

Quinones was charged with felony possession of cannabis and felony possession of cocaine, the release said.

He is expected to appear for a bond hearing Wednesday afternoon.
