Police: Man Dragged Dog Behind Car

AURORA, Ill. (STNG)  -- A west suburban man has been charged with animal cruelty for allegedly dragging a pit bull from a leash attached to the rear of a moving car around an apartment complex parking lot.

David Solis, 25, of the 1000 block of Sard Avenue in Aurora was arrested at about 5:30 p.m. Monday, according to a release from Aurora police.

Police got a call bout the dog being dragged from the car at an apartment complex in the 1100 block of North Farnsworth Avenue, the release said.

When officers got to the scene, they found an approximately 2-year-old female pit bull lying on the ground, panting heavily and suffering from obvious wounds to its feet, the release said.

The dog was just behind a 1993 Honda Civic CRX that had a dog leash attached to the rear window latch, the release said. Investigation showed that the dog had been dragged from the vehicle around an oval track that encircled the parking lot of the complex.

Solis was on the scene when police arrived and was taken into custody without incident. His motivation for dragging the dog with the car was not clear, police said.

Officers from Aurora Animal Control took possession of the dog, which apparently belongs to a relative of Solis. It has been transported to a veterinarian for examination.

Bond for Solis was set at $25,000 during morning bond call Tuesday at Aurora Branch Court. His next court appearance is Aug. 28 at 9 a.m. at the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles.
