Lawmakers Head To All-Start Game Amid Budget Shortfall

CHICAGO (WBBM)  -- With the state budget crisis looming, and the possibility of state employees missing their July 15 paychecks, Tuesday's special session lasted only a half hour.

Dozens of members in both chambers wanted the sessions cut short so they could attend the Major League Baseball All-Star Game 100 miles south in St. Louis.

WBBM's Mary Frances Bragiel reports that Republican State Represnetive Randy Remme says he attended the All-Star game because he had nothing to do last night..

Governor Quinn called the special session in order to get some sort of budget deal passed, that plugged the deficit and pay state employees on time.

Comptroller Dan Hynes remained skeptical saying it was unlikely that would happen.

Rep. Reyme says the bottom line is that the budget should have been passed in May.
