Increased Security At WIU Following Threat

MACOMB, Ill. (AP)  -- Classes are back to normal today (Thursday) at Western Illinois University in Macomb.

An employee at a nearby apartment complex found a note saying there'd be an on-campus shooting Wednesday.

School officials say there is  heightened police presence on campus today (Thursday).

WIU activated an alert system at around 9:30 a.m., shortly after the note was found. It informed students by text message and e-mail about the threat.

Police are investigating and say no suspects are in custody.

WIU spokeswoman Bonnie Barker says her first thought was about the NIU shootings when she heard about the note.
