MARKHAM -- A horse that got loose from a ranch early Sunday onto I-57 in south suburban Markham caused minor traffic problems for about 20 minutes before the horse jumped a fence and returned to the ranch.
The dark-colored horse briefly got loose from a horse stable in Markham and got onto I-57, before jumping back over a fence and returning to the ranch, according to Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Hall.
The horse got loose about 12:50 a.m. on northbound I-57 near 159th Street prompting ISP to begin shutting down I-57 to attempt to trap the horse and return it to the ranch, Hall said. Before the shut down began, the horse jumped back over a ranch fence about 1:10 a.m.
The horse got loose from the Silver Stallion Ranch, which is about one mile north of 159th Street, Hall said.
Silver Stallion Ranch, 15125 S. Sacramento Ave., is a family-run dude ranch that exposes inner-city kids to rural based careers, according to the Silver Stallion Ranch Web Site. The site also says the ranch is the home of the black cowboys.
