An exchange of gunfire between police and a suspect on the South Side early Sunday ended with the suspect being shot dead by officers.

At approximately 2:13 a.m., a Chicago Lawn District unit responded to a call of shots fired on the  6100 block of South Kedzie Avenue, according to police News Affairs.

A weapon was recovered on the scene, police said.  The shooting is being investigated by the Independent Police Review Authority.

This is the second police-involved shooting over the holiday weekend.

ADALINA WEBER, 31, is dead after scrambling into a north suburban Lincolnshire resort Saturday afternoon after being stabbed.
An arrest warrant for first-degree murder was issued Sunday evening for 58-year-old John Weber Jr., according to  the Lincolnshire Police Department. He is accused of murdering his 31-year-old wife Saturday afternoon near the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort, 10 Marriott Dr.

Adalina Weber was pronounced dead just before 4 p.m. at Condell Health Network in Libertyville, Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said.

"We're treating this as a homicide investigation," said Lincolnshire Police Department Commander Gregory Duffey. It is the first murder in the Northwest suburb in more than 20 years.

Police had not located Weber Jr.  Officials said relatives of his wife, including her children, were under protection.

"They're with officers and they are safe," said Detective Domenic Cappelluti of the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force. "We are taking every precaution." Cappelluti said the couple had not been living together for some time.

Officials could not say whether Clarence Weber was the father of any of Adalina Weber’s children. Cappelluti said the public was not at risk despite the fact that no one had been apprehended in connection with the crime.

"It appears to be an isolated incident where our victim was targeted," he said. "The community should not be in harm's way." Police were called to the scene at 300 Marriott Dr., near Milwaukee Avenue and Route 22, about 2:11 p.m. Saturday.

Employees at the nearby Walker Bros. confirmed she worked her shift as a waitress there that morning.

What happened next is unclear.

"We believe she drove the vehicle to this area," Cappelluti said. "We believe the incident occurred at this location." She made it into the lobby of the hotel, where she collapsed. Hotel workers called 911 and provided first aid, said hotel general manager Mike Croke.

Adalina Weber was not a guest at the hotel, he said.

Weber was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where she was pronounced dead just before 4 p.m., Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller said. She had multiple stab wounds, he said. An autopsy is scheduled. Witnesses said police surrounded the area around the hotel and the nearby Lincolnshire Marriott Resort.

Although police want to question her husband, Cappelluti said police are seeking others in the case.

"He's not the only lead we're investigating at this time," Cappelluti said.

Despite the crime on its grounds, the hotel remains openy. Many guests were unaware of what happened until much later in the day.

Lincolnshire police and the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the death as a homicide.
