DOWNERS GROVE--A truck company is offering a $10,000 reward for information regarding the whereabouts of the trailer of a cigarette truck that was hijacked in west suburban Downers Grove.
On July 7, an Eby-Brown truck was making a delivery at the Speedway service station at 898 Ogden Ave. in Downers Grove when an armed subject with a handgun entered the vehicle. The gunman climbed into the cab and ordered the driver, Thomas Fleming, to drive west on Ogden Avenue.
Fleming was found in Joliet that night and the truck cab was located in Chicago's Norwood Park area the next morning, but the trailer and cargo are still missing.
Eby-Brown is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of parties involved in the hijacking, said Sgt. David Bormann of the Downers Grove Police Department. An additional $10,000 is offered for information on the return of the trailer in good condition.
The offender is described as a white male with short brown hair and armed with an unknown type of handgun, according to a press release sent out by the Downers Grove Police Department.
The trailer is white with trailer number 36012 and a registration of 351 683 S/T, the press release said.
If spotted, police are warning people not to approach the truck. The offender involved is considered armed and dangerous.
Bormann said there is a chance the trailer was abandoned somewhere, maybe a parking lot or on the side of the highway and people should keep their eyes peeled for the trailer number.
"You'd be surprised once you start looking," Bormann said. "There are hundreds of (abandoned) trailers all over the place."
Anyone with information on the hijacking is encouraged to call the Downers Grove Police Department at 630-434-5600.
