WILLOW SPRINGS/ LEMONT, Ill. (STNG) -- Authorities are asking for the public’s help identifying a woman whose body was found in the Des Plaines River near southwest suburban Willow Springs last month in DuPage County.
The victim, a 5-feet-7 1⁄2-inch woman believed to be in her mid-30s, was found by a passerby May 27 in the Des Plaines River, according to a DuPage County Coroner’s office release.
The woman was driving across the bridge at Willow Springs Road during the afternoon rush when she spotted the body floating in the water, according to Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Keith Frederick. She doubled back to get a better look and called 911.
The body was floating in the water downstream just west of the bridge.
The naked body, believed to weigh between 121 and 135 pounds, had black hair, no lower teeth and five upper back teeth. It is unknown if the woman normally wore dentures or a dental bridge, Frederick said. No dentures were found.
The woman had no significant scars or tattoos, and police believe, based on some indicators, that she was a black female but they are not completely certain, Frederick said.
Dawn Domrose, a coroner’s office spokeswoman, said the body was recovered near Kingery Highway (Route 83) and Jeans Road.
The coroner’s office, DuPage County Sheriff's office and Illinois State Police are attempting to identify her, the release said. She does not match any outstanding missing person reports in the area, Frederick said.
Results of an autopsy are pending, according to the release.
