Gas leak prompts fire in Round Lake
|
UNINCORPORATED ROUND LAKE (STNG) -- A small explosion triggered by a gas leak caused a shed fire in an unincorporated area of northwest suburban Round Lake Saturday, authorities said.
Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District Capt. Bill Rohrs said the fire occurred around 1 p.m. in a backyard shed at a home on the 24000 block of West Lake Shore Drive.
It is believed that the blaze started while a resident was working on a lawnmower's fuel system. When firefighters arrived at the scene the shed was nearly engulfed with fire and smoke, Rohrs said. The fire then became larger as a result of an explosion due to the leaking gas. Nonetheless, the fire was ousted in less than 15 minutes, Rohrs said. No one was injured.
In addition to Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District, Fox Lake and Grayslake fire departments provided assistance.
