Woman fatally struck by freight train
|
GURNEE (STNG) -- The death of a woman struck by a freight train early Friday in an unincorporated area near north suburban Gurnee was deemed a suicide, authorities said.
Lake County Sheriff’s office Sgt. Rick White said the woman was on the tracks near Illinois Route 121 and Washington Street when she was struck by a northbound Canadian Pacific freight train about 1:20 a.m.
Kelly Brock, 43, of Park City, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:30 a.m., according to Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller. Brock died from "multiple trauma," Keller said, and her death appears to be a suicide.
The woman did not cross the tracks in a crosswalk but had to walk through nearby fields and a residential area to get onto the tracks, White said.
The engineer aboard the freight train notified police that a pedestrian was struck, White said.
Lake County Sheriff’s police are investigating.
