'Most Dangerous' Priest Gets Bond

CHICAGO (WBBM) - A man accused of being a serial pedophile--called the most dangerous priest in America--was freed on bond today while he awaits trial.

The latest on the case from WBBM's Regine Schlesinger.

After hearing two hours of arguments, U.S. Magistrate Judge Arlander Keys granted Father Donald McGuire a $50,000 bond provided McGuire remains under home confinement with two lifelong friends of the elderly priest agreeing to serve as third-party guardians to ensure Father McGuire has no contact with children.

Dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit and moving slowly with the use of a walker, McGuire, 77, appeared Tuesday on the latest charges of sex abuse at the Dirksen Federal Building.

Father McGuire, a Jesuit priest already convicted of molesting two young boys, now faces new federal charges of abusing two more boys and using his professional credit card to access internet pornography.

Last year, Father McGuire was found guilty in Wisconsin of molesting two students from Loyola Academy in Wilmette while they were on a school retreat in Lake Geneva in the 60's.

McGuire is 77 years old now. His lawyers argue he's no longer a danger and should be allowed out on bond.

SNAP, a victims' group, calls that argument ridiculous, saying child predators become more dangerous as they get older.  The accusations against him are as recent as 3 and 4 years ago.
