Four Nabbed, One on The Loose in Bolingbrook Home Invasion
Naperville Sun Reporting
BOLINGBROOK--Two men, a woman and a teenage boy will face trial for allegedly breaking into a Bolingbrook man's home and robbing him with what later proved to be a pellet gun.
Bonds of $100,000 each are set in Will County Circuit Court in Joliet for Michael K. Miles, 19; Suzanne M. Richerson, 17; and Irvin M. Wofford, 17, all of Bolingbrook. All are charged with home invasion and armed robbery, both felonies.
A 15-year-old Bolingbrook boy also was arrested and charged as a juvenile with residential burglary, Bolingbrook police Lt. Ken Teppel said Friday. A fifth suspect, a man, remains at large, he said.
Teppel said police were called shortly after 8:20 p.m. Wednesday to the home of a 63-year-old man who lives on the 200 block of Blackberry Drive. The man called 911 to report he had just been robbed at gunpoint.
The suspects' choice of a target was "purely random, according to them," although one member of the group had casually mentioned earlier in the evening to the others that the victim lived alone, Teppel said.
Three of the suspects approached the man's door while the other two stood lookout outside the home, Teppel said. They found the front door to the home open and the inner screen door closed but unlocked, Teppel said.
The homeowner was sitting on the floor of his front room and watching television when the trio entered, with one brandishing what appeared to be "a grayish-colored handgun," Teppel said. They demanded money, and the man gave them $250.
Police responded to the scene following a 911 call, and the man gave them a description of the robbers, Teppel said. Officers searched the area and captured four of the suspects just before 9 p.m. as they were attempting to escape on foot.
Teppel said police recovered the pellet gun from beneath a bush down the street from the victim's home. Detectives are still trying to find the stolen money, which Teppel said the suspects apparently hid while fleeing.
Miles, Richerson and Wofford are scheduled to be arraigned June 5.
