That's a direct quote from Bears head coach Lovie Smith from the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis when asked if the Bears' Super Bowl window remains open.
"As far as Super Bowl window, it's a long time ago that it seems like we played in the Super Bowl," Smith said. "We like the core of our team. I feel like we're close. It's a fine line between winning and losing."
Other notes from Smith's session with the national and local media:
- Stabilizing the quarterback position remains the off-season goal.
- The Bears want QB Rex Grossman back, based on his body of work.
- Veteran guard Ruben Brown will not be back in 2008.
- Smith stated that he very much wants safety Mike Brown to return despite his injury history saying Brown remains one of the core players.
- Smith says in his opinion the 2008 class of offensive linemen are as strong as he's seen.
- Offers to receiver Bernard Berrian and linebacker Lance Briggs indicate an optimistic desire to have them return.
- There is no major concern about Brian Urlacher's recent off-season neck surgery.
- Safety Adam Archuleta remains in the team's plans.
More coming up throughout the day, including from Bears General Manager Jerry Angelo.
