Steve Miller Reporting CHICAGO (WBBM) - The family of a 30-year-old Countryside mother of two wants answers about the accident that led to her death Tuesday morning as she crossed a street with her children.
WBBM's Steve Miller reports that the sister of Cari Cook believes the 45-year-old woman who was driving the vehicle that hit Cari must have been distracted by something.
Maggie Stevens says her sister Cari was her best friend, and she says she wants some answers from the driver who hit Cari in LaGrange.
"It was just a horrible, horrible thing that happened, Maggie Stevens said, “and for someone to say that they thought they hit a pothole and didn't stop until they saw my sister's lifeless body laying on the floor in the middle of the street.”
Police say they are still investigating.
Stevens says her sister saved her children's lives, "The stroller wasn't even touched by the car. Cari did try to protect her son. She'll be a hero in everyone's hearts forever because she gave up her life for her kids."
Police in LaGrange say they are still investigating the fatal accident.
Maggie Stevens says the driver must have been distracted, "I find it very hard to believe that you could not see a family of three plus a dog walking across a busy intersection. She was distracted by something. We need to figure out what it was."
Maggie Stevens added, "I'm sorry that she didn't push her daughter on the swing one more time or walk around the block one more time and avoid this. Then we'd be sitting here with her right now.”

LaGrange Meeting
There will be a meeting held at the Seventh Ave school in LaGrange on June 2nd at 7pm for the public to address the Village of LaGrange Board Members. There are areas in LaGrange that either have inadequate or missing sidewalks. How can LaGrange keep it's residents and visitors safe if it doesn't provide safe sidewalks to all areas of LaGrange? Sad that this accident could have been avoided had LaGrange listened to our numerous complaints about unsafe sidewalks or streets with no sidewalks at all.
