ORLAND PARK, Ill. (STNG) -- An elderly southwest suburban woman died Monday, five days after she was involved in an head-on traffic accident.
Charlotte Damas, 79, of Palos Park was driving a 2003 Jeep Cherokee westbound on 131st Street in Orland Park at about 6:45 a.m. on Oct. 14, according to Palos Park Police Chief Joe Miller.
A Nissan Pathfinder heading east turned in front of her in order to make a left turn onto LaGrange Road, and the large SUVs collided head-on, Miller said.
Damas, of the 13000 block of Terrance Dr. in Palos Park, was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the medical examiner's office.
Damas's husband was also in the Jeep but was not injured, Miller said.
The driver of the Pathfinder, a 45-year-old woman, was not injured. She was cited for driving without a valid ID and failure to yield before turning, and her husband was cited for allowing an unauthorized person to drive a vehicle.
The site of the accident was in the jurisdiction of Palos Park police, who investigated.
An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
