CHICAGO (AP) -- Mike Ditka says he won't be going to Canton, Ohio, for the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Saturday, and he says he won't go again until the NFL and the players' union start treating disabled players right.
Ditka and other retired players object to how few players are getting disability payments. League officials say 317 players collect about $20 million in such payments each year.
The former Bears coach and player says he's proud to be a Hall of Famer and congratulates the new inductees. He adds that prior commitments tomorrow also will keep him away from the event.
The six new Hall of Famers to be honored are Bruce Matthews, Thurman Thomas, Michael Irvin, Roger Wehrli, Charlie Sanders and Gene Hickerson.
