Daughter Of Couple Killed In Crash Sues Truck Driver

CHICAGO -- The daughter of an elderly couple killed in a south suburban car accident is suing a semi-truck driver, alleging the man’s negligence is to blame for their deaths.
Holly Wiser-Connolly is suing Osman Efendic and his trucking company, Elaines Express, Inc. after her parents, Glen and Eleanor Wiser, were killed in a crash, according to a suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court Friday.

On March 7, 2007 the Wisers, both in their 70s and of Xenia, Ill., were traveling east on Goosenow Road in Crete Township when their 2006 Dodge Caravan collided with the trailer portion of a semi truck at Ashland Avenue, Will County Sheriff’s police spokesman Pat Barry said in March. The semi truck was nearly stopped while attempting to make a U-turn at the intersection,  Barry said.

The suit says Efendic failed to stop his vehicle to avoid the crash, failed to yield to the Wiser’s right-of-way and failed to decrease his speed.

Barry said the driver was attempting to turn around because the road had a posted weight limit and he was trying to back track.

“His trailer was sideways in the road,” Barry said. “Apparently, the Dodge did not see the trailer and struck the trailer’s midsection.”

Investigators determined the semi has proper reflectors out and flashers on while turning.

Wiser-Connolly is seeking more than $100,000 for the wrongful death of her parents.

Efendic was not injured in the accident.
