Daley: Forced furlough ruling won't have impact in Chicago

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- The Daley Administration says a federal court ruling against forced furlough days in the Washington, D.C. area should have no impact here in Chicago.
A judge has ruled that Prince George’s County violated Federal law when it mandated furloughs for 5900 workers. The City of Chicago’s Law Department was watching that case.
But, spokeswoman Jennifer Hoyle points out the major difference was that the Prince George’s officials forced unionized workers to take unpaid days off. That is not the case in Chicago.
Hoyle points out that Chicago negotiated with most of its labor unions so that they would agree to accept furlough days.
Non-union City employees have been forced to take furlough days, but they don’t have a union contract.
