Dad Accused Of Setting Sons On Fire To Plead Guilty

CHICAGO (AP)  -- A suburban Chicago man accused of killing his two sons by dousing them with gasoline and setting them on fire has offered to plead guilty.

DuPage County Public Defender Robert Miller said in court Thursday that the offer depends on prosecutors agreeing not to seek the death penalty for Kaushik Patel.

The 34-year-old Glendale Heights man is accused of first-degree murder in the deaths of 7-year-old Vishv Patel and 4- year-old Om Patel. Miller says Patel could make the plea at his next court date on September 11.

Assistant State's Attorney Liam Brennan says a decision on the offer will be made within the next three weeks.
