Crews work to contain radiation spill on Northwest Side



CHICAGO, Ill. (STNG)  -- Fire crews are working to contain a radiation spill on the Northwest Side after a truck became wedged on top of a gas meter following a crash.

A Level 1 HazMat response was called about 12:20 p.m. at 6100 W. Montrose Ave., according to Fire Media Affairs Chief Kevin MacGregor.

A truck struck a meter that contained low levels of radiation, according to MacGregor, who said crews were on the street "packaging" up the spill.

A construction crews was putting new asphalt on the street when a truck struck a meter, ultimately wedging itself on top, according to unconfirmed dispatch reports.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.
