Crane Collapse Leaves One Dead

NORMAL, Ill. (AP)  -- A crane collapse has killed a man at a construction site in Normal.

McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling said the man's body was still pinned by the crane at midday. His identity was not yet available.

Local authorities said the crane collapsed about 10:45 Wednesday morning onto the roof of a warehouse under construction in the central Illinois town. Normal is just north of Bloomington.

Kimmerling said the crane collided with a lift being used at the construction site.

Initial reports indicated other people were injured. But Kimmerling said other workers were checked out at the construction site and no one was taken to the hospital.
