Cops warn businesses after North Side robberies
|
CHICAGO (STNG) -- Police are warning North Side businesses about a series of break-ins reported at jewelry stores in the last four months.
The incidents happened between Aug. 24 and Nov. 9, according to a release from Belmont Area detectives.
Two jewelry stores were targeted, police said, and in both cases, three or four men pried open the doors around closing time.
As the employees prepared to put jewelry into the safe for the night, the men would rush in, grab the trays of jewelry and flee, according to a Belmont Area police sergeant.
He said the robberies took only seconds.
A third business, not a jewelry store, was also robbed on the North Side in recent months, the sergeant said.
The incidents happened in the 2600 block of West Devon Avenue, the 4900 block of North Broadway and the 2800 block of North Clark Street, the sergeant said.
Police are looking for three or four Hispanic males, 25 to 35, 5-foot-10 to 6 feet and 180-200 pounds. The men wear black ski masks and black hooded sweatshirts and leave in a red SUV.
The men spoke Spanish, the sergeant said.
No employees have been injured in the incidents.
Anyone with information should call Belmont Area detectives at (312) 744-8263.
