CHICAGO (STNG) -- Police are seeking a white man who beat up and sexually assaulted a woman in her mid-50s exercising in a Southeast Side park Tuesday morning.
The woman was sexually assaulted near the intersection of South Avenue L and 115th Street about 5:15 a.m., according to police News Affairs reports.
The woman -- who was exercising by walking in Rowan Park, 11546 S. Avenue L -- was attacked by a 5-foot-8, 220-pound white man, according to Calumet Area police.
The man -- who was not wearing a mask -- fractured a couple of bones in her face during the beating. She also suffered bruising all over her body. The woman was sexually assaulted and she was taken to a hospital in the south suburbs, Calumet Area police said.
The man fled in a vehicle after the assault, police said.
"The woman is hospitalized and is traumatized, and we have not been able to speak to her," police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
"We are being very sensitive in trying to work with her," Mirabelli said. "Once she's better, we will try to get more of a definitive description of the individual."
The park is well lit and, at the time of the attack, it was still dark outside.
No arrests have been made as of 3:30 a.m. Thursday.
The woman remains hospitalized early Thursday, according to police News Affairs reports.
Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
