Cops Investigate Sexual Assault at Chicago Charter School
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Police Special Victims Unit detectives are investigating an alleged sexual assault at an elementary school on the city's South Side earlier this week.
The alleged attack happened Wednesday, at the Chicago International Charter School Basil Campus, 1816 W. Garfield Blvd. Three students were reportedly involved.
Chicago Police would not elaborate on the investigation Thursday, only confirming two elementary school students might have assaulted another student.
Beth Purvis, executive director of Chicago International Charter School, said: "All three are juveniles, the matter was quickly referred to Chicago Police, and they're investigating. In light of that and the need to protect the identities of our underage students, we can't share additional details at this time, other than to say that we're working with parents and, as always, doing everything necessary to protect the safety of our students."
The school, including pre-kindergarten through eighth grades, has slightly more than 700 students.
