Cops Allegedly 'Taser' 82-Year-Old Woman

CHICAGO (WBBM) - A spokesman for the Chicago police department says the Office of Professional Standards is looking into an incident in which an 82-year old woman allegedly was "Tasered" by officers sent to check on her well-being.

Chicago Sun-Times columnist Mary Mitchell says the incident took place last Monday at the West Side home of Lillian Fletcher, who's described as having a history of mental illness.

When authorities arrived, the woman reportedly refused to open the door and then grabbed a hammer for protection when police forced their way in.

That's when officers allegedly used a Taser on her.

Fletcher was taken to an area hospital for treatment and was later released.
