CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Hillary Clinton's and her surrogates have been campaigning hard in Indiana, ahead of the Hoosier state's May 6th primary. Until now, they've avoided northwest Indiana, seen as an Obama stronghold.
But, WBBM's Regine Schlesinger reports tomorrow that changes when Clinton visits Hammond for an economic town hall meeting.
Hammond mayor Tom McDermott believes Senator Clinton's visit to Hammond demonstrates that she's not giving up on northwest Indiana and he doubts that Obama is convinced that corner of the state is solidly in his column.
McDermott, an ally of Indiana Senator Evan Bayh, is a supporter of Senator Clinton while his counterpart in Gary, Mayor Rudy Clay, is working for Senator Obama. McDermott believes Clinton will win Indiana largely on Bayh's popularity.
McDermott says Indiana's late primary usually leaves the state out of the nominee selection process. This time, it will be a key player.
