CHICAGO -- Victor Ortiz, 22, is dead after a fatal gunshot wound to the head in the Pullman area early Sunday.
About 2:05 a.m., witnesses saw a man fire a gun at the victim, striking him in the head in the 600 block of East 115th Street, according to a report from the police First Deputy Superintendent's Office. The gunman then fled in a car, the report said.
Ortiz, of 11311 S. Langley Ave., was pronounced dead at the Stein Institute at 5:30 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner. The shooting occurred at 601 E. 115th St.
Calumet Area detectives are investigating. No one has been arrested.
•A 20-YEAR-OLD man was shot multiple times early Sunday in a drive-by in the South Side's Canaryville neighborhood.
Police News Affairs Officer David Banks said the man was with friends in the 4200 block of South Wells Street just before 1 a.m. when an occupant inside a black Nissan fired multiple shots.
The 20-year-old was shot in the buttock and back and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in fair condition. The vehicle was heading south from the scene, Banks said.
No one is in custody. Wentworth Area detectives are investigating. •ROBERT LIGGINS is dead after being shot Saturday afternoon in the South Side’s Englewood neighborhood.
Liggins, 28, of 6432 S. Oakley Blvd., had a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 1:01 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner said.
Liggins was shot about noon in the 6400 block of South Oakley Boulevard and was initially taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police News Affairs Officer JoAnn Taylor said.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating. No one has been arrested.
•GINA PAPPAS is dead after she was struck by a car early Saturday morning.
Pappas, of 4545 Polar Ave. in Richton Park, was pronounced dead Saturday at 8:05 a.m. at the Stein Institute, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.
About 3:30 a.m. Saturday, a 37-year-old woman from Frankfort was driving northbound on Harlem Avenue at 206th Street when she said she impacted an unknown object and pulled over, Cook County Sheriff’s Police Spokeswoman Penny Mateck said.
About the same time, police in the area received a call that an intoxicated female was walking in the area, Mateck said.
When officers arrived to search for the intoxicated woman, they found a pedestrian struck by a car nearby, and the driver of the car pulled over, Mateck said. The woman, who was driving a Chevy Malibu, was on her way home from work when she said she hit an unknown object which she assumed was a deer, Mateck said.
The driver was taken to an area hospital where she was treated and released. She has not been cited in the accident, Mateck said. Police are still investigating whether the woman killed in the accident was the intoxicated woman for which the police were searching. An autopsy is scheduled.
•ALICE ROSADIO-JACKSON is dead after being hit by a car just a few blocks from her home Friday afternoon in the Englewood neighborhood.
Rosadio-Jackson, of 1351 W. 81st St., was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.
Rosadio-Jackson was struck by a Kia on the 7800 block of South Ashland Avenue about 4:30 p.m. Friday, police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti said. Rosadio-Jackson walked into the roadway, which had three lanes of traffic heading northbound on Ashland Avenue, when she was struck, Ursitti said.
The driver of the Kia, 43-year-old Delois Pink, of Joplin, Missouri has been cited with failing to use due care for a pedestrian in the roadway, Ursitti said. An autopsy is scheduled.
•QUENTIN DOUGLAS, of 1400 S. Throop St., is dead following a Saturday morning shooting outside his home in the Pilsen neighborhood on South Throop Street.
Douglas, 22, was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 11:41 a.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said.
A passerby called police to report an unresponsive person and responding officers found Douglas, shot in the back, police News Affairs Officer JoAnn Taylor said.
Harrison Area detectives are investigating. No one has been arrested.
•JOSEPH FLEMING, 17, is dead, shot within a block of his Chicago Heights home Saturday night.
Fleming, of 1951 Concord Dr. in Chicago Heights, was pronounced dead at Saint James Hospital and Health Centers in Olympia Fields at 8:46 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner said.
Police responded to a shooting at 1934 Revere St. in Chicago Heights about 7:24 p.m., according to Chicago Heights police. The victim was shot on the street and ran to his home, less than a block away, where he died, police said.
Police say the shooter drove away. No one has been arrested. Chicago Heights detectives are investigating.
•A MALE TEENAGER was shot early Saturday after he overheard an argument.
The teen, 18, was in the 5900 block of South Rockwell Street just before 12:40 a.m. when he realized he was shot in the shoulder, according to police News Affairs Officer David Banks, who was citing preliminary information.
The shots were preceded by the 18-year-old hearing an argument, Banks said. The 18-year-old is in John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in "good" condition.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating. No one has been arrested.
•A WOMAN is in "good" after being caught in gun crossfire in the Marquette neighborhood.
She was shot on the 6900 block of Talman Avenue about 7:57 p.m., police News Affairs Officer David Banks.
She was walking her dog and talking to a friend on the phone when a man came up to her, pulled out a weapon and fired two shots in her direction, Banks said. She was hit once in the wrist and was taken in good condition to Holy Cross Hospital, Banks said.
The woman was caught in crossfire and was not the intended target, Banks said, citing preliminary information. Wentworth Area detectives are investigating. No one has been arrested.
