Chicago Sites On Register Of Historic Places



CHICAGO -- Two Chicago buildings and a Northwest Side park have been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. 

The Inland Steel Building, Spiegel Office Building, and Independence Park were place on the historic register, according to a release from the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.

The Inland Steel Building, 30 W. Monroe St., Spiegel Office Building, 1038 W. 35th St., and Independence Park, 3945 N. Springfield Ave., were placed on the register list on Feb. 18 by the National Park Service.

The Inland Steel Building was the first skyscraper to be built in the Loop following the Great Depression of the 1930s. Its principal designers were Bruce Graham and Walter Netsch of the Skidmore Owings and Merrill architecture firm.

Independence Park dates back nearly 100 years.
