Chicago Science Festival Kicks Off

CHICAGO (WBBM)  -- The Daley Administration is touting Chicago’s scientific history and kicking off a two week Science Festival this week.

WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports it’s all in the name of Science education:

Mayor Richard Daley used a Daley Plaza ceremony to unveil the top ten scientific achievements from Chicago, from the skyscraper and malaria treatment to the first portable cellular phone and—number one—the first controlled nuclear reaction, back  in 1942.

The occasion was the kickoff of a two week Chicago Science in the City festival, with institutions across the city participating. And the aim, says Mayor Daley, to make science more fun, and more attractive:

The Chicago Public Schools are mounting competitions and carnivals to spark interest among young people.
