CHICAGO (WBBM) -- An angry Governor Rod Blagojevich denied that he is a subject of federal prosecutors' investigation into state political corruption.
The governor has been interviewed a number of times by prosecutors, according to court records.
But when reporters in Chicago asked the governor if he was a target of the fed's investigation, he lashed out and called such questions "absurd" and "ridiculous".
The governor also accused reporters of lacking integrity for pursuing what he calls "sensational" stories.
Blagojevich said he's not involved with the investigations and he speculated the only person who's probably targeting him is House Speaker Michael Madigan in his quest to stop the state from passing a jobs bill or a balanced budget.
When asked how indicted fundraiser Tony Rezko came to wield such power in the governor's office, Blagojevich said "he was a friend and a support of mine and many other people. Ok? Nobody had any idea that he may have been involved in some of those things. Ok? Once we learned that that was the case, we made adjustments and moved on."
The governor was speaking after a press conference at a gas station on Chicago's North side where he announced the state will add more inspectors of gas stations starting this weekend. |
