Bears Camp Update -- August 14 -- Play Time

PLAY TIME
It looks like you might see Lovie Smith’s starter play into the third quarter Saturday in Seattle. Smith said most starters will play at least a half, possibly more.

FILLING IN THE BLANKS

With Anthony Adams sidelined, Israel Idonije moved into the first unit at nose tackle next to Tommie Harris.  Idonije has exclusively worked inside after being asked to bulk up to play the position. His size rushing the quarterback up the middle is used in the nickel package to take away clear passing lanes. Idonije has molded himself into a versatile, solid defensive lineman. It also appears defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek will not play in Saturday’s exhibition.

ABSENT
Cornerback Charles Tillman was excused for personal reasons, while linebacker Rod Wilson and safety Brandon McGowan (ankle) were held out. McGowan will not likely play against the Seahawks, giving Kevin Payne a chance to start on the strong side.

NICKEL MAN
New nickel defender Danieal Manning intercepted a Caleb Hanie pass intended for tight end Fontel Mines in Wednesday night’s practice. It’s been a quiet camp for Manning as he adjusts to learning one of the most difficult positions on defense.

FINAL PRACTICE
The Bourbonnais portion of training camp concludes this morning with a short practice that is closed to the public.
