Beach Park Mayor Called An 'Idiot' by Wife On Recording

BEACH PARK-- Beach Park Mayor Milton Jensen didn't mean to broadcast to his entire town his wife thought he was an "idiot."

An ill-timed joke, a flippant remark by his wife, Ina, all added up to an embarrassing moment  when all was revealed during an emergency telephone call to residents about a bomb threat at Beach Park Middle School.

Jensen said the elementary school district had requested he use the emergency telephone calling system to warn parents that there had been a written bomb threat against the school late Thursday.

Jensen was at home recording the message when, right at the end, his wife said on the intercom "you idiot." When he checked, he thought his wife's remark hadn't made it onto the recording sent to 7,000 residents.

She made the remark because Jensen had slipped a joke in between songs on her iPod. She heard the joke in another room and used the intercom to joke with him. He sent a second recorded statement to the residents apologizing.

"I was just about to push the button to end the recording," he said of the bad timing. "I received several telephone calls," he said, laughing about the issue. His wife was embarrassed and he didn't have any problem adding to her's.

"Make sure you give her a lot of ink," he said laughing.
