42 treated after CO leak at hockey tourney

GLEN ELLYN (STNG) -- A total of 42 people were treated after a carbon monoxide leak during a hockey tournament in Glen Ellyn Saturday evening.
At about 5:30 p.m., Glen Ellyn fire responded to Center Ice Arena at 1N450 Highland Ave. and evacuated the building due to a carbon monoxide leak, according to a news release by the Glen Ellyn fire department.
Nine people were taken to Central DuPage Hospital and four were taken to Adventist Glen Oaks Hospital in Glendale Heights--all in “stable” condition, Glen Ellyn fire spokesman Craig Eldridge said. An additional 29 people were treated and released on the scene. Many complained of headaches, vomiting and dizziness.
The building was heavily occupied, with an estimated 200 to 300 people because of a hockey tournament for “high school-aged boys,” Eldridge said.
It is unclear what caused the leak, the news release said.
