35,000 Run and Walk For Breast Cancer on Mother's Day
CHICAGO (WBBM) ― Tens of thousands of breast cancer survivors and their families took part in a Mothers' Day tradition. The Y-Me Race to Empower kicked off Sunday morning in Grant Park.
Y-Me estimated that 35,000 people took part in the annual race. The group provides information, empowerment and peer support to women with breast cancer.
Their goal is to make sure no one faces the disease alone. Y-Me raises about $5 million each year at the Mother's Day event, featuring a 5K run and a 1- or 3-mile walk.
Panera is also helping to raise money for breast cancer this Mothers' Day. They donated 20,000 pink ribbon bagels to the Y-Me Race and if you donate a dollar to breast cancer research at any participating Panera location, you'll get a coupon for a dollar off your next purchase.
