CHICAGO (STNG) - A second man was charged late Wednesday in a mass killing that left three men and two women dead in a Chatham home in April.
Arthur Brown, 25, of the 3700 block of Lake Street in Lansing, has been charged in the murders of five people -- Anthony Scales Jr., Donovan Richardson, Whitney Flowers, Reginald Walker and Lakesha Doss -- found fatally shot in a home in the 7600 block of South Rhodes Avenue on April 23, police said.
Brown and Toloran Williams, charged June 11, both face five counts each of murder and armed robbery and one count of home invasion, police said. Brown is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing later Thursday at the Cook County Courthouse (Br. 66), 2600 S. California Ave.
Williams, 22, of 11623 S. Artesian Ave., was ordered held without bond June 13 by Cook County Judge Donald Panarese Jr. and he is scheduled to be arraigned July 23 at 9 a.m., Conklin said.
Williams, who knew at least one of the victims, gave police information about another man being sought in the slayings. It is not clear if the person charged Wednesday is that suspect.
Authorities said Williams knew some of the victims and was caught with a television stolen from the home Rhodes Avenue home, authorities said.
Police captured Williams after a person at a South Side gas station called police after overhearing the suspect talking about the murders, according to a source, who said robbery is believed to be the motive.
Sources said the home also might have been used for prostitution.
It was the worst mass killing in the city since 2003, when a man gunned down six people in a South Side warehouse before dying in a shoot-out with police. |
