CHICAGO (STNG) -- Chicago Police have issued an alert to Magnificent Mile area businesses after a store employee had a $7,000 Cartier ring taken from her by an armed robber.
The robbery happened July 1 at a store on the 700 block of North Wabash Avenue where the victim works, police said.
The robber confronted the woman inside the store, approaching her with what was believed to be a handgun stashed in a black plastic bag, according to the alert from Near North District police.
When the man realized there was no cash in the store, he demanded the victim's ring and also took $40 cash from her purse. He then fled the scene on foot.
The suspect is described as a black man about 5-foot-7 and 160 to 170 pounds with bald head, brown eyes and medium complexion. His age was unknown.
He stole a five-band Cartier Panthere diamond ring in white gold, police said. The round diamonds are all the same size and the ring is collapsible so it will lay flat when off the finger. The estimated value is $7,000, according to the alert.
Anyone with information should call Belmont Area detectives at (312) 744–8263.
