CHICAGO (WBBM) -- The IRS says almost $46 million is going unclaimed so far by Illinois residents eligible to receive economic stimulus checks.
Number of Illinois residents who have yet to claim economic stimulus payments: 153,000.
That number comes from the IRS, via Governor Blagojevich's office, which says unclaimed stimulus checks in Illinois add up to 45 point 9 million dollars.
Only 10 days are left to claim those checks, deadline is Oct. 15.
You have to have filed a 2007 federal income tax return.
The governor's office says low-income seniors and disabled veterans could make up a substantial portion of those who haven't claimed their checks because low-income seniors and disabled veterans may not ordinarily file tax returns.
Governor Blagojevich's office says anyone with questions about how to file their 1040A and how to receive economic stimulus benefits can call the Center for Economic Progress at (312) 630-0273 in Chicago or (888) 827- 8511 from outside of Chicago.
